I welcome guest blogger, Annie, to my synergistic blog community! Annie is Your Coach For Life and offers an array of services for your mind, body, and spirit. Her strengths are her sincerity and humor which just draw people into her. I just love the way she blends practical strategies into the real-ness of life. She’ll cause you to think and smile 🙂 Here’s a bit of what she has to share…
A few months ago, I began a gratitude journal. “Happy Horse Doo Doo!!!” is all I can happily exclaim about the results I am receiving from this simple practice. I am amazed and grateful at all that has come my way since I started scribbling in my tiny red velvet journal used just for this purpose.
First, I think I have some “esplaining” to do (as Lucille Ball always had to do to Ricky Riccardo on the old Lucille Ball show.) Here is how to begin your own gratitude journal: at the top of your page, write 3 things you are grateful for. The catch here is that you can’t repeat anything. This forces you to expand your concept of what is worthy of your gratitude. Some unusual items on my gratitude list that I never would have considered previously are: nail polish, the wheels on my car, the color pink, and my life’s lessons.
Next, write the sentence “What I am Grateful to Receive”. Then list 3 things you really want now. You can repeat items on this list. So far, I have received several items on the list, in a form better than I could ever have imagined. I found a stunning pair of tortoise shell, cat eye glasses with big old retro frames for $11 at Claire’s. Hot Dog!! Got a lightweight, efficient vacuum with the paper bag instead of a filter for cleaning my clients’ homes. Woo Hoo! Got more peace in my life about everything in it–just don’t get nearly as jacked up as I used to. Dandy!
One very unexpected benefit from this exercise is that when I review my lists of things I will receive, I see that some are repeatedly written, but never actualized… at all… in any form. I am now investigating these desires – are these things I really want in my life? If I really do, what on earth am I doing to stop them from materializing? And let me tell ya, Dude, am I getting some answers! I now realize how I am getting in my own way, and being a life coachey type of chick, am busting some ass to change what needs to be changed. Ahhhhh…..and it feels so good. Nothing nastier than stale, old energy clogging your life and holding up progress.
So I would like to challenge you to begin your own journal. Hate writing? Commit to the journal for just 3 days, or 5. You will be surprised at what and who will begin to appear right in front of your peepers, and in some cases, very quickly. Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing your experience Annie. I really love the practice of appreciating what you have now and also that which is to come!
